Brianna Wilson's Portfolio
Showcase
This page includes samples of work I completed in my Master's of Arts in Education Technology. These piece highlight what I have learned in my program. This showcase shows how I can effectively address needs in my classroom, professional development, increase student understanding and much more. I am very proud of what I have created in my Master's courses. They have helped improve my teaching and classroom atmosphere. I hope that others can use these resources to help them in their own classrooms or to be inspired to create their own resources.
Technology for the classroom
Math Resource Library
This online resource library was created to house a variety of technologies that can be used in a math classroom. There are specific tools for Algebra, Algebra 2, and Personal Finance. There are also tools that can be used in any math class. This is easy for teacher to access when they want to include technology into their classroom. Each technology is accompanied by a description, how it can be used i the classroom, and a link to the technology. To view my resource library, click on the screenshot on the right. |
Online Algebra Course
This is an online course that was created for my Algebra class. It was created using Haiku Learning. All of work and lecture for students are included on this page. It is easy for students to follow along and know what assignment is next. If student miss a day of school they have all the information the need on this website. It includes lectures, assignments and assessments. This allows me to follow a flipped classroom approach where students watch the lecture at home while taking notes and the work on the practice in class with me. Check out Haiku Learning by clicking on the picture on the right. *Want to see my planning while creating this course? Check out my Developer's Notebook. |
Addressing Challenges in education
|
Reimagine Online Learning
I created this video as part of a group project. The project focused on a wicked problem in schools today. Then as a group we found ways to address this problem. We focused on online learning and how teachers can use it to address all learners in new ways. My section of the project was to take everything we discussed and summarize it into a video. This is the result. To create this video I used iMovie on my MacBook, and YouTube. |

Changing teaching to gain understanding
In this example of digital story telling I explain how I changed my teaching style to help students understand a topic they struggled with. There are many times that students struggle to understand. This project challenged us to think of new ways to teach a topic. I learned a lot about student learning for this project, and have since changed my teaching to improve student learning. The technology I used to create this digital story included: MacBook computer, iMovie, and YouTube. |

Checking for Misconceptions
This is an interview I did of three Biology students at different levels of study. This project opened my eyes to what students retain from class and misconceptions they have before and after completing a course. It was interesting to go through the process of interviewing students and finding out their misconceptions. Since completing this activity I have done it again with my students so I could address misconceptions before they leave my class. When I am not recording the students (like I was in this interview), students answers were more in depth and meaningful. It is important for teachers to recognize and address misconceptions and this is a great example of how to find those misconceptions. I used Audacity to record my students. |
Promoting Professional Development
Instrumental and Missional Thinking
This is a Prezi presentation that discusses the difference of instrumental and missonal thinking. Missional thinking is considering the educational vision and students when finding technology in a school. This presentation show the importance of missional thinking and encourages the viewer to take use this thinking when making decision on technology. Want to view my full Prezi? Infograph of Teacher Survey I surveyed 27 teachers in our high school and asked them for feedback on technology in their classroom. It was clear through the results that many teachers did not feel comfortable using a variety of technologies in the classroom, but believed it was important to include more technology. After organizing this infograph to show the results, I was able to share it with administration. As a result we were given an extra day of professional development with technology in the classroom. Click on the clip from infograph to see my complete graph. |
Flipped Classroom I am a big believer in a flipped classroom. I have seen how it helps students succeed. I created this short video clip using Mozilla Popcorn to promote and encourage others to try a flipped classroom. This online tool allowed me to take clips and pictures from the internet to create a video. This would be a great tool to use with students in the classroom to present or represent information. How To & Screencasts
|
How to Record an MP3
This video was created to show teachers in my school how to record onto an MP3. The special education department uses MP3 players for students who want tests, quizzes, books, articles or exams read aloud. This is a screencast of how teachers can use tools available on our computers to creating audio recordings for the MP3 players. I used Smart Recording, Audacity and my school HP desktop computer to record this video. Screencast of Interact Math For this project we were asked to find a technology to fix a problem of practice. I focused on solving two-step equations. This screencast is an explanation of Interact Math and how students can use Interact Math for homework help and extra practice. I used Jing to record this on my MacBook and uploaded it using Screencast. |
